My Christmas wish list this year is mostly items that are a bit of an extravagance — things I would love to have, but feel silly buying for myself.

iRobot vacuum
I am intrigued by the idea of a robot maid who follows me around cleaning up after me, a la “Rosie” from The Jetsons. We’re not quite there yet, but this is close.
I have two dogs. They aren’t big shedders, but they seem to bring in a lot of mulch, leaves, dirt, etc. Plus, I’m a messy cook, and there always seems to be the detritus of dinner left on my kitchen floors.
The Robot Roomba 960 maps the room as it cleans, so you can see whether it has covered the entire area. And it returns to its nest when it is finished or needs to recharge.
Caviar Shampoo and Conditioner
My hairdresser says your hair totally changes every 7 years. In my case, the change has not been for the better. My hair is dry, fragile, wiry and coarse. This shampoo and conditioner make it soft and shiny. It’s pricey. But it’s awesome.
You can get it here on Amazon.
The best athletic sock: Balega
Don’t you love a great sock? I’ve tried so many, and they all feel pretty much the same — except for the Balega.
Balega athletic socks are soft and cushy, and seem to last forever. I dig through my sock drawer to find one of the two pairs that I own. Love these.
The Joy of Cooking
I have a much-loved, old, dirty, falling apart edition. I think I need the new and fully-revised version, out this year.
You can get it here on Amazon and let the UPS guy carry it to your door, rather than hauling it home from the bookstore. For more about this incredible cookbook, please see The one cookbook you MUST own: The Joy of Cooking.
Wireless ear buds
I walk. I walk and walk and walk. Listening to music, or podcasts, or my new passion — audible books — makes the time fly. I plug in my earbuds and I’m so happy, until the wire gets tangled up and the buds get ripped out of my ears.
My husband has these by Beats, and he loves them. He says they are really comfortable, and it is virtually impossible for them to fall out.
The Beats Powerbeats Pro ear buds are available on Amazon in several colors.
I also tested the Apple AirPods and they sounded terrific.
Origins Eye Doctor
I’ve used this eye cream for years.
Origins Eye Doctor is one of the few eye creams I’ve tried that doesn’t sting my eyes. And I love the smell.
Yeti coffee mug
I’m a big fan of Yeti. (Our Favorites: Cold Drink Tumblers Edition) I don’t have one the right size for coffee-on-the-go. I’ve got this one on my wish list:
This is the Yeti 20 ounce tumbler, which should be the perfect size for fitting in the cupholder of my car.
Do I need these things? Of course not. Would I like to receive them? You bet.
