Life got crazy.
We’ve had some big changes. There have been transitions. Adjustments have been made. Houses have been sold, houses have been bought. You never know where life is going to take you, and Kalisa and I have found different roads to travel recently.
(And in case I fooled you, that’s NOT us at the Statue of Liberty, at least not the one in New York. That’s us at the lesser-known Statue of Liberty, in Ardmore, OK. Yes, we’ve found some different roads lately.)
The blog got lost in the shuffle.
We’ve had full plates.
Covid hit and everyone’s world changed. I don’t need to tell anyone about the changes in the last 18 months. We’ve all experienced some kind of trauma, living in a world that became very different from what it had been in 2018, pre-covid.
Speaking of 2018, that’s when we began this blog. Our tag line was “Searching for style, joy, and delight — and a great pair of shoes.” We wanted a platform to share some of the good things we learn from each other or from other important people in our lives. We wanted to talk about great food, entertainment, travel tips, and also thoughts about friendship, aging, beauty, etc.
But in about March 2020, that started to feel out-of-touch, or at least not relevant to us at that moment. Perhaps our tag line should have been “searching for sanity, comfort, and vaccination — and a roll of toilet paper.” In any event, we both lost our mojo a bit, and didn’t seem to be finding much style, joy or delight — and we had no need for a great pair of shoes because we never went anywhere. So this blog went on the back burner.
I’ll be honest. I’ve had some real struggles in the last 18 months, and I just couldn’t seem to find my voice, or the energy to write about topics surrounding joy and delight. But it feels like the sun is coming out again. No, everything is not perfect — not globally, and not in my little microcosm. But I feel ready to find some delight in small things again. I hope others are feeling similarly, and might welcome the opportunity to share in our blog again.
Friendship endures.
I’ve had a few constants through this turbulence: a God who loves me, a husband who will (almost always) patiently listen to my latest complaint, two kids who make my heart swell, a beloved dog who must sit in my lap a minimum of 5 hours each day, and some really good friends. And my friend Kalisa — my blogging partner, my co-Dandelion, my best friend — has been with me through a few tears, a fair amount of irritability, 10 new pounds around my waist, a lot of transitions and adjustments, and much laughter. There’s always the laughter.
I look forward to searching with her again — for style, for joy, for delight, and even for a great pair of shoes.
