Once upon a time (actually, 2018), two best friends started a blog.
The idea was that the blog would be about the things that 50-something women talk about. It would address important things and trivial things: food, travel, friendship, marriage, family, great sales, fashion, entertainment. The tag line was “Searching for style, joy and delight — and a great pair of shoes.” The blog was to be like a public version of conversations between girlfriends, sharing tips, adventures, and the things that make us smile.
They called the blog “Two Dandelions,” because dandelions are tenacious and hard to get rid of. They bloom where they land. They have value, although many take them for granted. Dandelions are vibrant, and somehow both strong and gentle. And they grow and change and have a different beauty as they get older.
The two friends were having a blast with the blog, and then things changed. The world became a darker place for a variety of reasons — some universal, some unique and personal. A pandemic came and went. Houses were bought and sold. Family members left this world. It felt tone-deaf to write about shoes or food or searching for joy. Like Sleeping Beauty, or perhaps like a woman who has had one too many glasses of wine, the blog was put to rest for a while.
After a dark three years, the sun is coming out again. It feels appropriate to be joyful again, and celebrate the big and small things that fill life. It’s time to laugh again, time to dance again, and time to find some fabulous shoes.
And throughout it all, the two best friends have taken care of each other and loved each other, as friends should. We’re back.
