I did not see it coming that I would be writing a blog post recommending Walmart +. . .
Our blog is about the things that bring us joy.
Do you wonder why we write what we write? One day it’s about our love of steamers for caring for clothing. Another it’s about a great recipe. Sometimes it’s about friendship, or acts of kindness that have been showered upon us. If you find our topics puzzling, please check out Why we write what we write. . . or Why “two dandelions”?. We want to write about the things that make life good, or maybe make each day a little better or easier.
Off-topic disclaimer: My daughter got married a week ago. I am still reeling from the joy, fun, emotion and love of the weekend. I hope to write about it sometime. But all I could muster right now is a post about Walmart. That’s how tired and overwhelmed I am right now.
Walmart+ may not technically be bringing me joy, but it is making my day a little easier.
Do you shop at Walmart at all? I am willing and excited to go to a dazzling gourmet grocery store for beautiful produce, quality meats, freshly ground almond butter, etc. But buying my toilet paper and laundry detergent at a fancy grocery store does not bring me joy. With apologies to my many friends who have made careers at Proctor & Gamble, I’ll go so far as to say that I get NO joy from buying toilet paper or laundry detergent, from any store. I’d like to spend as little time and money as possible buying those items but still get the quality and brands I’m looking for.
If you don’t know Walmart (if you’ve been living under a rock for the last 40 years), they have great prices. You’re probably not going to find your artisanal cheese or imported crushed tomatoes there, but it’s a great place to get your basic and necessary supplies. But shopping at Walmart is not the most pampering or posh of experiences. Nor is unloading your car when it is packed to the gills with paper towels, body wash, window cleaner, etc.
This is where Walmart+ is brilliant.
I received a free membership to Walmart+.
I would not have tried Walmart+, but my credit card company offered me a free membership, and pays my monthly fee. If not, the cost is $12.95 per month, or $98 per year. (Details at Walmart +.). In case you are wondering, we do not represent Walmart or Walmart+, and receive no compensation for this recommendation.
Free same-day delivery.
With my membership I get unlimited free delivery and shipping.
Now you are asking, why not just use Amazon Prime? Yes, like the entire world, I have Amazon Prime and I order a lot of household items from that, things like lightbulbs and packing tape. And those are shipped for free, but do not come by delivery the same day I order them (with a very few exceptions). Walmart+ comes the same day I ordered it.
My first day I ordered shampoo, conditioner, a soap dish, barrettes, hair clips, Clorox all-purpose cleaner, Swiffer dry cloths, Swiffer wet cloths, glass cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, and Bubly sparkling water. It was all delivered, for free, a few hours after I ordered it.
Here is a picture of the things that were delivered to my door, and that I did not have to carry to and from my car:
The next day I ordered Ruffles baked potato chips, Cape Code reduced fat potato chips, lemons, lime juice, tortilla chips, cranberry juice, LaCroix, Club Soda, diet coke, a 32-pack of bottled water, and sunscreen. Again, it was all brought to my front door in a few hours. No hauling it to the car, no unloading from the car into the house. Easy Peasy.
Whatever they can’t deliver, they will ship to you for free.
Free Paramount + membership.
A free Paramount+ membership comes with your Walmart+ membership. I haven’t signed up for that yet, but Kalisa tells me it is good.
Is it worth $12.95 per month?
As I said, I get my membership for free from my credit card. Would it be worth it if I were paying for it? I believe it would be. I don’t have to drive to Walmart, so I’m saving on gas. I don’t have to spend time in the store hunting down my items, and that can be significant. The best part to me is not lugging my items to and from the car. As long as I use it a few times a month, I think it would definitely be worth $12.95 per month.
And now if only Walmart my favorite French Sancerre or a nice bottle of Gruner Veltliner. . .
