The Most Fun We Ever Had, by Claire Lombardo
I listened to the book, and the recording is terrific. But I almost wish I had read it instead, so I could savor every word. It’s the sweeping story of a modern family, and it’s funny, poignant and fun. These characters will stay with you. I loved it.
The Female Persuasion, by Meg Wolitzer
This is a novel about ambition, mentorship, relationships, loyalty, identity and integrity. Meg Wolitzer also wrote The Interestings, and she has a unique way of realistically capturing the voices of young adults as they navigate their place in the world.
The Mother-In-Law, by Sally Hepworth
This twisty mystery is built around the complex relationships among family.
The Lager Queen of Minnesota, by J. Ryan Stradal
I loved this book. It is immensely readable. The characters are interesting and likable, and you care what happens to them. It’s about family, the mid-west, loyalty and beer. It is smart and funny and charming.
City of Girls, by Elizabeth Gilbert
By the bestselling author of Eat Pray Love. My mom recommended this one to me, and I might not have chosen it had she not enjoyed it so much. You will get carried away in this story of a 1940s Vassar girl (which my mom was) who takes a turn down a path of bad-girl behavior in New York City (which my mom most certainly did not).
Mrs. Everything, by Jennifer Weiner
There is so much in this book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a perfect spring break read. I’m having trouble summarizing or explaining it, so I’ll just say that it is a New York Times 100 Notable Books of 2019, one of the Washington Post’s 50 Notable Works of Fiction in 2019, and one of NPR’s Best Books of 2019.
