It’s Fall Y’All… Time for Favorites like Apple Cake!

In the south, “It’s fall y’all” is commonly heard as we try to convince ourselves it is indeed fall, despite temperatures in the 90s. With fall comes football, turning leaves (in some places), crisper weather (again, in some places), and fall favorites like apples, pumpkins and chili.

Apples for Everyone

There are now a bazillion different apple varietals and it’s difficult to know what kind to buy for anything. For baking, I find myself sticking with Granny Smith apples for baking.  They are tart and you can control the sweetness by adjusting the sugar in your recipe.

A Recipe for Novices

I’ve never made an apple cake and I don’t consider myself a great baker, but I tried this recipe and thought it was easy and delicious:

Best Apple Cake Ever Recipe  (You can click on the link to take you to the recipe.)

This may sound ridiculous, but my least favorite task related to baking is greasing and flouring the pan.  It’s important to do a good job with it so your baked goods don’t stick when trying to remove them. You know you’ve been thorough when the flour covers every area of the pan.

Batter

Batter is usually thick, but still pourable if that’s a word. This batter was super thick.  I had to spoon it into the bundt pan.

Baking

This cake takes a long time to bake.  My oven usually bakes faster than the estimated recipe times, but this one took the full one hour, fifteen minutes.  The result was golden and beautiful!

Luscious Caramel Sauce

What goes better with an apple dessert than a wonderful caramel sauce? This one is easy to make.  I doubled the recipe and reserved half for drizzling over the cake (and side of vanilla ice cream).

End Result

The end result was a delicious fall dessert. I would make it again.  If you try it, I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we did!
