Finding a hair product that you love is sooooo satisfying and often equally challenging! I have fine, used-to-be thick hair that is stick straight. I’ve never had and never will have that easy wash-and-go hairstyle. I know it and I’ve accepted it. I’m willing to spend time styling my hair and I am always on a quest for hair miracles!
When it comes to hair products and tools, I’ve tried so many. While I’ve had many hair-larious failures, I have found some winners over the years. Following are some of my favorites!

Shampoos & Conditioners
There are so many options out there and so many good ones. I appreciate a shampoo and conditioner that delivers what claims. For an overall solid drugstore option, I like Garner Fructis.
For color-treated hair like mine, I prefer Pantene’s Illuminating Color Care Shampoo. It’s gentle and doesn’t contain harsh ingredients that might fade color.
I love Kerastase products. The line has something for everyone and I’ve found the products deliver what they promise. They’re a bit pricy, but I use them sparingly and they last a long time. Plus they smell fabulous.
For damaged hair, Olaplex is the bomb. A tiny amount goes a long way. Follow the directions and you won’t be disappointed. The No. 3 is magic if you leave it in long enough.
Root Touch Up
Over the years I’ve had to book my color appointments closer and closer because of my persistent gray hair. I’m now at three weeks between appointments and refuse to reduce it any further. Root touch up spray to the rescue! A tiny can lasts about a year. I love this stuff!
Mousse, Sprays, Etc.
I’m always looking for the magic potion that will give my hair a little body. I’ve learned it’s a tall order; I’m not looking for the Cameron Diaz look in “Something About Mary” though! Luckily I’ve found a few products that seem to help!
They call this densifying treatment mousse and I would agree it does just that:
This is an awesome product for fine hair. The key is to use it when your hair is damp, not wet.
Hairspray
The cherry on top of the sundae? This bomb hairspray. It’s Hall of Fame material for me. For my hair, it’s the only one that helps my hair hold it’s curl/body. If you walk out of the house and your hair immediately dies, this is the hairspray for you!
Serum
I’ve been using these serum/vitamin capsules lately and I believe they are helping my dry, damaged ends in particular.
Tools
This is a curling iron and flat iron. It also has a fan built in, which allegedly cools and sets the curl. I’m not sure that’s exactly what’s happening, but it works on my hair. It’s easy to use and has several different heat settings. I use it to get this look…
These are my go-to. I pop them into my almost-dry hair, run the blow dryer over them, wait five minutes and pull them out. The result is wave, which brings me joy!
What are your go-to hair products and tools?! It’s always great to have a recommendation from someone you know!

Growing out my natural silver like my beautiful SIL Laura Peraino. This duo keeps the yellow at bay.
Hi Kalisa!!! I miss you pretty lady. You have some great tips!! I agree with Olaplex #3 for sure. It was like magic in restoring my damaged hair. Speaking of magic, I just had a Magicsleek treatment for frizzy hair. It’s a pricey treatment, but lasts 7 months! I will keep your list of recs, because you’re my go-to girl for beauty tips. Thanks so much. for posting. I love your blog!
Hi and miss you, too! Magicsleek sounds like magic:) I’m going to look it up! Thanks!
