Books
Something your host is interested in or something interesting, funny or pretty:
There are several volumes of these and they’re funny.
Assouline offers beautiful travel books. If you know your host has been to or is planning to go to one of the places featured, this is a great gift. Perfect for a coffee table.
Food
High quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar is great for a cook or bread lover. Finding a local option is a great touch.
A dessert is a perfect gift, but if you’re attending a dinner party, you may want to clear it with your host ahead of time. It’s awkward for the host to have dessert planned and then have a guest arrive with a dessert that now also needs to be served. These cakes (and they have small, individual sized ones as well) are amazing.
Flowers
Love, love flowers! Bring them in a vase, as it’s a pain in the butt for the host to stop the flow of prep to find a vase, snip the flowers, arrange them, etc. You could also purchase a beautiful vase and pick up fresh flowers and arrange them.
Linens
Cute or functional, quality linens are a great gift, especially if you choose something the host doesn’t have or isn’t familiar with.
Natural Woven Seagrass Round Placemat
Candles
A common gift, and there are some beautiful, special candles out there and they make amazing gifts.
NEST Diffuser and Votive Candle
And of course wine or champagne is always a good option. It’s particularly thoughtful when you gift one of your favorites, or there’s a story attached to what you choose to gift.
I love when someone gives me a gift and has a thoughtful reason for choosing it… “We had this wine at this fabulous restaurant in New York,” or “A friend of ours gifted us this amazing candle and I knew you would love it.”
Have fun choosing a unique host gift. The more thought, the more special the gift will feel to your host.
