I HATE losing things. How many times have I ripped apart the house (car, handbag, etc) searching for something? If only there were a way to locate our lost precious things.
And now there is: Apple Air Tags. I’ve started putting them on everything that I can’t stand to lose.

Air Tags on my luggage and backpack.
We all know that airlines are less than stellar in their treatment of our luggage. What a relief that I can look at my phone and see a graphic of my luggage being transported across the airport and loaded on to the plane.
My husband’s keys have Air Tags.
My sweet husband loses things. He recently lost his key fob for his car, which was sitting at the airport off-site parking. We searched high and low (luggage, pockets, cars, rental cars, hotels, even calls to airlines). No one had seen his fob, or really seemed to care much about our dilemma.
When we called Lexus to see what could be done if you have a locked car and no fob, they actually informed us that NOTHING could be done. As in, give up all hope and just abandon that luxury car at the off-site parking, because you’re never getting in it again. That’s not exactly true or accurate, but we knew we had a inconvenient and expensive project in front of us in order to get that car out of parking prison and have a new fob made.
Luckily, I located the back-up fob, and had it shipped to my husband at his travel location, so that when he landed at the airport he would have a key to the car. I paid extra for super-fast shipping.
Would you believe that the shipping company LOST the back-up fob.? So now we were out two fobs, and still had a car stranded in off-site parking.
After many phone calls, emails, and visits to the shipping company, we did eventually locate the back-up fob. The original fob is still on the loose. And we have now had a third fob made, at a cost of over $300 and a day out of my husband’s life.
Long story short: his key fob now has an Air Tag.
My dog wears an Air Tag necklace.
At a friend’s lakehouse I left the door open, and my sweet dog went on an adventure.
I was absolutely sick. He’s never been out on his own, and doesn’t understand that the world is full of predators and speeding cars. He’s 15 years old, deaf and mostly blind, so I knew he wouldn’t be able to find his way back or hear us calling him.
Four of us fanned out across the lake area, all screaming for the dog. We eventually located him about a mile away, near the water. It was awful.
He now wears an Air Tag. And I’m more careful about leaving doors open.
I slipped an Air Tag in my mom’s car.
My fiercely independent and spunky mom was still driving at 92. She refused to carry her cell phone or wear her medical alert button. (She has since relented, and carries both.)
One day no one could find her. I called her usual haunts: the Country Club where she plays bridge, the church where she plays Mah Jong, and Aldi’s, her grocery store of choice. No one had seen her. After much angst my husband told me I needed to call the Emergency Room. I thought he was being a bit hysterical, but I did. Yep, she was there.
(If you know my mom, it will not be hard for you to believe that she had driven herself there rather than calling any of her three adult children, checked herself in, but then left when they made her wait longer than 15 minutes. She’s a toot.)
After that scare, I slipped an Air Tag in her car. It couldn’t tell me that she was OK or even in her car, but at least we would know where her car was.
You can see your precious items on your phone.
Here’s what I see when I look for my dog:
Pretty nifty!
And now if they only made Air Tags for my lost patience!
